Flute summer course
FLUTE SUMMER COURSE Saturday, August 22 – Saturday, August 29, 2026
Are you an advanced or professional flutist looking to take your playing to the next level? Get inspired by top-notch instructors and enjoy a unique musical vacation in a breathtaking setting!
The instructors

Philippa Davies
As a flutist with the Nash Ensemble and London Winds and a professor at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Philippa is among the international elite. Her inspiring lessons and masterful technique are a must for every ambitious flutist

Jan Willem Nelleke
This versatile Dutch pianist and renowned teacher brings his experience as an accompanist, chamber musician, and arranger to the course. He is affiliated with the Royal Conservatory and the Franz Schubert Institute. This is a unique opportunity to perform alongside a master pianist!
The course
You will primarily play in small groups coached by Philippa. Additionally, Philippa offers workshops and exercises for all participants. There is also an opportunity to perform prepared flute solos accompanied by pianist Jan Willem Nelleke and to participate in ad hoc ensembles. To ensure all participants receive sufficient personal attention, the course is limited to 14 players.
The repertoire for 2026 will be announced a few weeks before the course begins. We aim to provide most of the course repertoire in advance so you can prepare your parts.
During the week, Philippa Davies and Jan Willem Nelleke will give a concert, which is always a fantastic event highly appreciated by the local community. The course will conclude with an informal concert by the participants for an invited audience.
Course level
This summer flute course is intended for advanced and professional flutists (from post-grade 8/diploma level or equivalent) who wish to deepen their flute playing and chamber music skills in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
For new participants, the repertoire below serves as an indication of the required level. You should be able to play at least one of the following works:
– Gabriel Fauré – Fantasy for Flute and Piano
– Sergei Prokofiev – Sonata (First Movement)
– Francis Poulenc – Sonata for Flute and Piano
Daily schedule
Each day features three sessions of 90 minutes led by Philippa Davies: two before lunch and one between afternoon tea and dinner. Participants can organize their own ensemble playing in the afternoon and early evening. After dinner, there is often more informal music-making.
The guided sessions include a mix of workshops (e.g., posture, breathing, tone production) and repertoire sessions, usually in small groups and occasionally with tutti ensemble playing.
Prefer to take an afternoon break? You can enjoy a walk in the Morvan Regional Natural Park or relax by the pool.

Between sessions, you can immerse yourself in the swimming pool at Château du Pommoy…
