Chamber music

On 3 different levels!

A week filled with music and plenty of time for relaxation: that’s the chamber music course at Château du Pommoy. The course is led by conductor Ad Verspaandonk.

After arriving on Sunday you will get to know the other musicians and Ad while enjoying an aperitif and a three-course dinner. The rest of the week you rehearse every day in the Orangery from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm on a great program. With beautiful views of the hilly landscape, chestnut trees and pond garden.

Conductor Ad Verspaandonk creates a good atmosphere. With his enthusiasm, extensive knowledge and experience, each ensemble will quickly sound optimal. In the afternoon there is an opportunity for relaxation, walking or self-study in or near the chateau. We organize an interesting excursion on one afternoon. Every day there is an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner and of course in between coffee or tea. On Friday evening we present the program with a concert.

There are 3 chamber music courses for different skill levels: intermediate, advanced, and highly advanced playing level. For the course intermediate and advanced playing level a maximum of 14 participants applies (variable instruments: strings, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone. There is also room for a pianist). For the highly advanced group you play in a fixed line-up of 10 people (for this course: violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn). You will receive digital sheet music in advance to study at home.

Playing levels and repertoire:

Intermediate playing level

3-6 years of lessons, depending on the instrument and the distribution of the parts

You play fairly pure and have a decent technique. During the playing together you already pay attention to harmony, dynamics and phrasing. Rhythm and change of measurements are not major problems. You regularly play together (with or without a conductor) and you can play a party independently to a reasonable degree.

Repertoire, 4-part arranged music with: J.S.Bach – from 3rd suite, Air-Bourrrée-Gavotte-Gigue; Tchaikovsky – from Swan Lake, Danses des petits cygnes – theme; Mozart – from Eine kleine nachtmusik, Romanza; Handel – from Water Music, Hornpipe

Advanced playing level

6-9 years of lessons, depending on the instrument and the distribution of the parts

You are familiar with a lot of music from the repertoire of your instrument in different styles and for different instrument combinations. You have a good technique on the instrument and what you play sounds great. You can easily play a part independently and you already have ample teamwork experience, with or without a conductor.

Repertoire, 4-part arranged music with: Schubert – from String quartet op.29, Andante; Mendelssohn – from Songs without words, Spring song and Regrets; Mozart – from piano concerto 21, Andante; Fauré – from Dolly Suite, Berceuse; J.S.Bach – from 3rd suite, Ouverture-Air, Bourrée, Gavotte-Gigue

Highly advanced playing level

At least the level of admission to the prior education of a conservatory of music

You have a very good technique on the instrument and what you play sounds very beautiful. The music partners can of course rely on you. You can study a part completely independently and you have ample teamwork experience and stage experience. During playing you pay a lot of attention to lecture, interpretation, execution, finesse, presentation. To participate in this chamber music course we ask you to send your own sound and image recording of some music fragments.
